Summary-- This story centers around a once-mighty highland clan and the social,
cultural and spiritual forces of change which they faced at the
beginning of the nineteenth century.
Con's-- My only qualm with this book is the same as with all MacDonalds books--there is some very odd and unbiblical theology simply because he always writes about nineteenth century Scotland.
Pro's--Though most people find MacDonalds books hard to get into I have liked everyone I read and completely understand why he was C.S.Lewis' favorite author. This book made a lot of very good points, gave some interesting history and had just a touch of romance to add a little extra excitement. I have so far read three of his books (and hope to eventually post reviews on them!) but this one is by far my favorite.
I do have to admit, I am biased since I'm of Scottish ancestory but even if I weren't, I still think I would give this book Five Stars. No age limit based on content but level of difficulty would be a 13 year old good reader.
